Video: Dr. W. Randy Short: "Baltimore is the Greatest Black Community!"

On August 25, 2011, a rally was held at the Historic Union Baptist Church in Baltimore, MD. The principal speaker was ex-Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney. See: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mPVJMSZsXeA Speaking in support of her "Truth Tour to Libya" were activists from a wide coalition of organizations. They included: the Rev. Cortly CD Witherspoon, Sharon Black, Fred Mason, Dr. W. Randy Short, Nick Powell, and others.

Activists opposing the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline staged a sit-in on Saturday, August 20, 2011, at the White House. On Monday, Aug. 15, 2011, striking union workers from the CWA staged a picket line at Verizon's Hunt Valley facility. It is located in Baltimore County, MD. One of the speakers at the spirited demonstration was Bill Dulaney, President of CWA Local 2010. He said the strike was about "corporate greed and union-busting." Inner Harbor workers, and allies, staged a demonstration on the morning of July 27, 2011, in front of the office of the Baltimore Development Corporation (BDC), located in downtown Baltimore. They expressed their concerns about a reported "$3 million rent break that a harbor developer, the Cordish Company," is requesting from the agency. Meanwhile, they point out many Inner Harbor workers "are often on the brink of homelessness and often face threats of eviction."

On July 25, 2011, a rally was staged at the Social Security Complex in Woodlawn, in Baltimore County, MD. Its purpose was to mobilize grass roots support to stop the US Congress from cutting Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid programs.  The demonstration was organized by the AFL-CIO, Progressive Democratic of America and other groups. Fred Mason, President of the MD/DC, AFL-CIO, led today's action.

On Saturday, July 9, 2011, at noon, a rally was held at the White House. Its focus was on stopping the bombing/War on Libya.  Speaking on camera are: Brian Becker, Sasha Murphy, Sharon Black and Eugene Puryear. The spirited demonstration was sponsored by the ANSWER Coalition.
