Renowned scholar and author, Immanuel Wallerstein, spoke this past fall at Baltimore's 2640 cooperative events space, on the significance and relevancy of the current waves of global upheaval and resistance.

Wallerstein, recognized for his essential four-volume analysis on modern day capitalism, "The Modern World System", reflected upon the movements for democracy coming out of the Arab Spring to the blossoming Occupy movement here in the United States. He situates these movements within the broader unstable context of global capitalism and a historical trajectory that could move the globe toward the hardening of capitalism without democracy or a push towards anti-capitalism that embraces wider democratic participation.
