A Farmworkers Rights Vigil organized by Just Harvest took place at the Baltimore American Indian Center (BAIC) on 113 S. Broadway in Fells Point, Baltimore.

Just Harvest, recently formed by veteran organizer Marina Saenz, is dedicated to social justice and human rights for immigrant farmworkers of color.

Dominique Washington was one of those workers that tourists would see – or not see – toiling behind the counter to provide them refreshment at the Downtown Inner Harbor. The 19-year-old former employee at Five Guys Burgers and Fries recounted stories of tripled duties, shorted paychecks, and working overtime unpaid at Baltimore’s premier tourist haven.

Inner Harbor workers announced a major ramp-up in the Human Rights Zone Campaign by calling on Inner Harbor developers, The Cordish Companies and General Growth Properties (GGP) to ensure basic human rights standards at the Inner Harbor.

On Friday May 1st, at 4:00 pm, workers and allies will gather for a
huge rally in support of UNITE HERE's City Center Sheraton boycott,
and in support of worker rights and decent treatment for all laborers.

The workers at the Sheraton have been working without a contract since
April 2006-for over three years. The boycott of the Baltimore Sheraton
City Center was declared November 15th, 2007 and since then, despite
millions of dollars in losses, the company has refused to grant a
contract to this longstanding union. They have been ignoring employee

On Friday, March 6th, The United Workers announced plans to confront three Inner Harbor employers as part of their “Human Rights Zone” campaign. They gathered at Mckeldin Fountain to protest three businesses for paying poverty wages, denying basic benefits like affordable healthcare, and treating workers without dignity or respect.
