Religion and Radical Politics

Religion and Radical Politics

Livestream video:
Workshop Description:

Religion is undoubtedly political and can be directed toward support of or resistance against the dominant socio-political narrative. This panel is a chance to explore the political aspects in religious traditions which offer relevant critiques and points for hope in our world. By radical politics, we mean political theory or action that challenges and is located outside current political discourses which are beholden to the Republican/Democrat binary, modern liberalism, or capitalism but work toward the removal of domination and structural violence. Moreover, radical politics will likely include engagements with pertinent issues such as race, gender, poverty, war, sexuality, environmentalism, etc. The panel will explore themes, practices, historical events, or ongoing actions of religious traditions which express radical politics. This is not a time for participants to "bridge a gap" between radical politics and faith, rather the goal is to explore the radical politics that's already at work in our various traditions.
