Poet Shirley Brewer Reads from her Book, “After Words”

About three years ago, Stephen Pitcairn, age 23, a medical student at Johns Hopkins University, was murdered on North Charles Street, only blocks from his home in Charles Village, Baltimore, MD. On Wednesday evening, July 24, 2013, poet Shirley Brewer read from her book, “After Words.” It deals with the tragedy of Mr. Pitcairn’s death. Ms. Brewer was living on North Charles Street at the time of the senseless killing. She was so affected by the crime, that she was “guided to do” a book of poetry. Before the reading at the Village Learning Place, Ms. Brewer lead the audience across the street and up one block to the exact spot where the murder took place. Flowers were laid at the site. There, Ms. Brewer then read one of her poems.
