At this past September 2012's Baltimore Radical Bookfair Pavillion, a yearly weekend-long event that Red Emma's Bookstore Coffeehouse organizes in conjunction with The Baltimore Book Festival, two reknowned authors and activists took the stage. Former political prisoner and prisoner-rights advocate Laura Whitehorn, author of The War Before: The True Life Story of Becoming a Black Panther, Keeping the Faith in Prison, & Fighting for Those Left Behind, and Dean Spade, co-founder of the Sylvia Rivera Law Project and author of Normal Life: Administrative Violence, Critical Trans Politics, and the Limits of the Law, carried a discussion about the prison-industrial complex and the ways in which the law stacks the deck against people who don't conform to the "norms" of society. A rare and truly important talk -- we hope you will enjoy our audio and video coverage of the event.
