Last week, many began digging a grave for House Bill 235, The Gender Identity Anti-Discrimination Act.

BREAKING NEWS: HB 235, The Gender Identiy Anti-Discrimination Act, passed its third and final reading at the House of Delegates today, Saturday, March 26th, 2011, by a 86-52 favorable vote. The bill now moves to the Senate where it will be subjected to possible amendments. It will be voted on by midnight on Monday, March 28th, 2011.

In July 2008, the ACLU of Maryland made public "shocking" documents obtained through a public information lawsuit, revealing that the Maryland State Police engaged in covert surveillance of local peace and anti-death penalty groups for over a year from 2005-2006. The documents showed that the MSP engaged in surveillance operations against peaceful activists, similar to those abandoned in the 1970s with the end of FBI Director J. Edgar Hooverâs infamous COINTELPRO program.

Perhaps best know for his tireless coverage of the Zapatistas in southern Mexico, John Ross; journalist, author, poet and activist, passed away yesterday from a two year battle with cancer. His work has ranged from critical coverage of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), the Israeli occupation of Palestine, to the wars in Irak and Afghanistan.
